Kindling, etching, 40 x 44cm

'Kindling' was made during lockdown while I was thinking about gates and portals in relation to fairy tales and archetypal landscapes. The open gate in this print shows the living forces of the wilderness flooding into the enclosed garden of the homestead. Their goatish form was possibly inspired by the goats of Llandudno who famously came down from the mountain into the silent town. These wild forces are hungry and uneasy but they must be acknowledged...
 
Etching on copper made with white ground (white pigment, soap flakes, oil and water) which is then aquatinted.
 
Printed on 300gsm Somerset Velvet paper.
